A previous Australian hostage has criticised the Federal Government's handling of the scenario of a Sydney man kidnapped in the southern Philippines.

Warren Rodwell, 53, was abducted from his home in Mindanao early very last month and has pleaded for his life in a video in which he asks his family members to assist increase $US2 million ransom.
